I was starting to think *sigh* our son would have to settle for a boring Cozy Coupe (oh, the horror!). Thank goodness that won’t be the case. Last week the hubby did a few projects around the house, one of which was converting our traditional Cozy Coupe into a Batmobile. It doesn’t get much cuter than seeing a 1-year old riding around in a Batmobile, folks.

If you don’t have a Cozy Coupe, you can get one at Target. Shipping on orders over $25 is free and if you have a RED Card, you’ll get an additional 5% off. If you start with the traditional Cozy Coupe, you won’t need to paint as much as the top is already yellow.

Start by removing all decals from the Coupe. Heating the decals up with a hair dryer will help them come right off. Then, use Goo Gone, or something similar, to remove the adhesive. After the adhesive is gone, take the Coupe apart and wash all pieces with soap and water. Make sure everything gets dry before you start painting.

It’s best if you maintain some sort of order with the parts.

Now it’s time to paint the base, horn, wheel caps, and key black with your favorite black spray paint that works on plastic (we used Krylon Fusion for Plastic). The baby likes to pull the key in and out over and over again which has caused some of the black paint to come off so if you don’t paint the key, no big deal. Tip, make sure you don’t have any of the yellow parts around when you’re using the black paint because they’ll catch overspray.

Let the first coat of paint dry overnight. You’ll probably need to put another coat of black (and possibly another after that). Just make sure you let each coat dry thoroughly before doing the next one.

After the final coat, let it dry overnight. Once all the parts are fully dry, put the Coupe back together and add the decals. We ordered our stickers from The Toy Restore Etsy shop. If a Batmobile isn’t your thing, she has a wide selection of other decals to choose from.

Here’s the decals that came in our package:
