When I set out to think of some April Fools Day ideas for the kids, all the pranks I thought of were kinda mean. So I searched for some ideas and, turns out, it’s not just me that thinks of slightly mean things to do to their kids on April Fools Day. Makes me feel ever so slightly better about my mom-abilities. 🙂
These ideas would’ve been great for St. Patrick’s Day, also. Audrie kept talking about how a leprechaun (more…)
I know I’m not alone when I say I’m beyond excited the weather is starting to warm up. In Missouri, mother nature plays dirty tricks on us and gives us 75 degrees one day and then snow the next but I’m not going to let her get me down. We’ve had a taste of spring and I know it’ll be here to stay very soon…or at least I hope it will because not sure sure how much longer I’ll be optimistic.
With nice weather, we all come out of our houses. It’s not like we haven’t left all winter, obviously, (more…)
I’m still on track with my eating (for the most part) but a back issue this week has taken me out of the gym for awhile (duration TBD). It’s frustrating and annoying. Historically, I don’t eat well when I’m not working out but I’m trying hard to keep the diet pretty clean for at least another week. I’ll be cheating big time on Easter, I’m sure but, as I’ve said before, I’m not perfect (hence, the name of the blog).
We’ve made the Ranch Chicken Skillet from last week’s Quick & Easy Weeknight Meals and it was tasty. I’ll (more…)
Looking for a gift for your favorite teacher? Audrie’s preschool teachers were great but I’ve been blown away with how wonderful her Kindergarten teacher is. I’m not in the classroom very often but when I am the chaos that takes place is almost too much for me to handle. How she does it every day amazes me and Audrie adores her.
Here’s some cute, non-labor intensive ideas I found to show a teacher how much you appreciate them. Some of these (more…)
We were a few days late celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this year. Really, we don’t normally celebrate so the fact we acknowledged the day is impressive. I saw these Lucky Charms Cupcakes from The Gold Lining Girl and thought they’d be perfect for Audrie to help make. She loves Lucky Charms (who doesn’t) and, of course, her favorite part are the marshmallows so combining cupcakes with marshmallows, not much gets better for a 5 year old.
We did these green for St. Patrick’s Day but you could do them for any occasion. The Surprise Inside Cupcakes I highlighted in 10 Easy Easter Cakes are just another example of something fun to do. Possibilities are endless.
I didn’t have the time (or energy) to make these cupcakes from scratch or pipe the icing on so I made the cupcakes from a box and (more…)
I’m 1 week into my 21 days of eating healthier/exercising more and, I gotta say, I feel really good. I haven’t been perfect but I’m pretty proud of myself for resisting numerous temptations this week. It wasn’t easy and I can’t promise it will continue for the next 14 days but that’s ok, not gonna be crazy about it. We made all of the meals from last week’s Quick & Easy Weeknight Meals this week and they all get a thumbs up from me. The hubby wasn’t a fan of the cauliflower and bacon dish but he doesn’t really like cauliflower so there’s a 50/50 chance he won’t like my cauliflower ‘rice’ dishes. Depends on how well I can mask the cauliflower taste.
This week I have more low carb meals. Here’s the printable grocery list for this week. If you subscribe to our mailing list, (more…)

I’m style-challenged (nice way of saying I have no style) so when I heard there I could have a stylist send me clothes every month and I could choose what to keep and send back what I didn’t want, there was no doubt I was signing up. I like going shopping as much as the next girl but I need to be in the right mood to look and need to be with my shopping buddy (you know who you are) but, unfortunately, those trips are few and far between. Plus, see above, I’m style-challenged so even when I do go, I leave with comfy shirts and baggy jeans.
Maybe someday I’ll have a personal stylist at my beck and call (not likely but, hey, a girl can dream) but for now I’ll settle for the mail version. Seriously, what’s better than having a stylist pick out clothes for you and all you have to do is open the mailbox to get them? I started Stitch Fix when (more…)
At our house, we like bacon…like a lot. If we can add bacon to something, we do (see Tomato-Bacon Guacamole). For us, Spaghetti Carbonara = Bacon Spaghetti. Yeah, sometimes we get fancy and use pancetta instead of bacon but here’s a secret, I like the bacon version better. I’m high class like that 🙂
We have this meal a lot (more…)
Yay, you’re going to build a house! It’s a lot of fun (if you’re dorky like me and like houses) but it’s also a lot of work. We built last year and had a really good experience. Don’t get me wrong, it’s stressful, even in the best of conditions. But, overall, nothing major went wrong and we love our new home.
There are soooooooooo many things to think about. So many that when writing this post, I decided to break it up into two parts. In this first part, I’m going to talk about things to consider before breaking ground on your new home. (more…)
This week I’m starting a 21-day challenge at the gym so I need to clean up my eating a
bit lot. This means everybody in the house suffers gets the joy of eating better and is SO happy about it. I can’t go carb free (seriously, that’s just crazy talk), but I do need to cut back on my carbs and the dinners this week reflect this. For the next 21 days I’m going to try really, really hard to not eat white carbs so no white pasta, bread, etc. Only whole grains. I won’t be perfect at it but I’m gonna try my best. Note, I’m not doing the official 21 Day Fix but there’s a lot of 21 Day Fix recipes that are low on carbs so that’s why a few of the recipes have that in the name.
In addition to the meal ideas, I’m going to try to put all the things you need for the meals on a printable grocery list each week. (more…)
